Sunday Football
This household enjoys football. Go Packers! And for me, go Farve! He deserves to win and I believe is a good example of playing a sport because you love to play. Anyway, we have been showing Walter to cheer for touchdowns. At first he would copy us and throw his hands up. But he is a very literal person and realized that saying “touch DOWN” while throwing your arms up did not make...

Testing 1 2 3
Testing children may be controversial. Josh doesn’t care a bit about it, and I know that test scores don’t give a full picture of a child. Nevertheless, at one of Walter’s schools they test all the children so they can customized their lesson plans. If you are curious, as I was, here are the results: Test of Language Development:  10 is average Picture Vocab: 8 Relational...

Helicopter
Today, I got a Happy Meal for Walt. The toy was from Transformers, I think. It was some kind of robot with a big spinning pole in its hand. I gave it to Walter and he identified it as a helicopter. Fine whatever makes him happy. Then I saw him spin it then pat his leg. Spin it, pat the leg. Huh? Oh, the helicopter was not make any noise so he provided the appropriate soundtrack. Quite...

The end of daycare
Today was Walter’s last day of daycare, and he will be starting preschool the week after next (we’re heading out of town for a week). So, his teacher gave me a Portfolio of Walter and it documents things he has learned and some stories about him. Here are some exerts: I was helping a child scoop some peas on his plate. Walter saw me do this and said, “Good job, Julie.” ...

Daddy Time
While I have been working Josh and Walter have had a lot of time together. But Josh is out of town for a few days so Walt is stuck with me. Now he accidentally calls me Daddy a lot. Yesterday, we went to drop off some movies Josh had rented. I put them in the slot, and got back in the car. Then Walter said, “Hey, thats Daddy’s store!”

Instinct
So, no kids want to go to bed. Walter is the same. I try to have him go to bed at the same time every night so there is a pattern, and he has to go it’s not a choice … normal parent stuff. What I’ve discovered recently is that he’ll go up the stairs (on his own two feet), brush his teeth quickly, and sprint into his bed when I tell him, “Its time for prayers!”...

Sweetness
Walter does act his age most of the time. Today he refused to climb into his car seat after we shopped for Josh’s birthday present. But after we forced him in I still gave him cookies when he said please. How could I not? You see he is so sweet he does things like this: when we came home, I cleaned the chocolate off his face and fingers. Then we went over and took his sandles off. His feet...

Art Enthusist
Since the day we brought Walter home from the hospital he has stared up at the art on our walls. In particular, the famous poinalist piece by Seurat (you have seen in it Ferris Beuller I bet). A few days ago he started trying to read the words on the print, “The Art Institute of Chicago.” He probably got it 70% right. So I helped him know how to pronounce it, and he loved reading it...

Today we worked on a new shape. Keep in mind he will keep asking what shape is that until he gets an answer. Since he already knows circle, rectangle, square, triangle, oval, star, flower, diamond, octagon, pentagon, hexagon, and trapazoid, the 12th shape (on his toy clock) was parrallelegram. But there was tradegty when in was discovered that it could not be put in backwards as the others could....

You don't have to read this
I tell Josh all the time that if I was to call up one of our family member and describe what Walter just did, they wouldn’t believe me. The point of this then, is for me to write down the things that go so I can keep them straight to tell Walter when he grows up. Here it is as is happens. Age 3 years 1 month Walter continues to love the iPhone. At first it was the educational apps, and...
